Phoenix Sustainability Strategy

Our strategy is built on a distinctive combination of economic value creation and authentic, material corporate responsibility.

We believe sustainable value creation depends on the ability to anticipate disruption, respond with discipline, and convert uncertainty into opportunity. Phoenix identifies and manages the opportunities and risks arising from major structural trends, including climate change, the transition to a low-carbon economy, and Gen AI, and works to translate them into stronger long-term performance and resilience.

At the same time, we recognize that long-term business success is inseparable from the strength of the economy and society in which we operate. Phoenix therefore focuses on the corporate responsibility issues most material to long-term value creation, including governance, transparency, people, environmental impact, and high-impact social investment. This integrated approach allows us to focus on initiatives we authentically believe will have real impact while strengthening trust, resilience, and sustainable performance.

Economic Value Creation

Phoenix is building new engines of growth by responding to evolving client needs and market shifts associated with climate change, the low-carbon transition, and artificial intelligence. We seek to create economic value by identifying attractive opportunities early, managing emerging risks proactively, and developing solutions aligned with the direction of the economy.

Investing in transition-linked infrastructure and resilience: renewable energy, water and desalination, agri-food systems, infrastructure adaptation, climate-related infrastructure, and transition-linked sectors.

Active ownership as a leading asset manager: strong corporate governance is critical for long-term value creation, efficient capital markets, and effective resource allocation. As a leading asset manager, Phoenix is committed to promoting high standards of corporate governance in its core businesses, across its investment portfolio, and within Israel’s financial ecosystem.

Developing growth products from disruptive trends: including electric vehicles as a growing insurance opportunity supported by optimized EV brand strategies, solar and storage infrastructure through tailored insurance and related solutions.

Proactively identifying and managing key risks: ESG risks and emerging technology risks, including AI and privacy, are integrated into Phoenix’s enterprise risk management framework and corporate governance mechanisms to reduce exposure and strengthen performance.

Material Corporate Responsibility

Material corporate responsibility at Phoenix is closely aligned with our strategy for long-term value creation. We focus on the issues most relevant to our business, stakeholders, and operating environment — from disciplined governance and best-in-class reporting to our people, workplace culture, and broader social impact. These priorities strengthen trust, support resilience, and reinforce our ability to create sustainable value over time.

Advanced corporate governance: We have implemented robust governance mechanisms that extend beyond oversight of value creation, business strategy, and traditional risk management to emerging material issues such as privacy, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and cyber security. We proactively manage these evolving risks, ensuring disciplined oversight, resilience, and long-term value creation for our stakeholders.

Transparent reporting: Phoenix is a market leader in transparent, structured, audited, and investor-relevant sustainability disclosure. Since 2024, Phoenix’s sustainability reporting has been fully integrated into our audited annual financial statements, in line with global best practices and unique among the Tel Aviv 35 companies.

People and culture: Phoenix strives to maintain a meritocratic culture, alignment and sharing of value creation through equity-based compensation (over 40% of all managers and employees receive options or restricted shares), and a modern work environment centered on two new LEED-certified campus spaces.

Strategic social impact: Phoenix advances social impact by partnering with high-impact, high-growth nonprofits through a VC/startup model. Supporting high-impact initiatives that strengthen social resilience, expand opportunity, and contribute to the long-term vitality of Israeli society through financial support, coaching, networks, volunteering, and in-kind contributions. These efforts focus on:

  • Expanding opportunity through education in Israel’s demographic and geographic periphery, with a focus on technology skills and future readiness;
  • Strengthening community resilience through renewal, with a focus on supporting communities in the North and South; and
  • Promoting culture and art as drivers of social cohesion and resilience, reinforcing shared identity, civic connection, and public well-being.
